An update on us

It's been a while since I've posted and a lot has happened, so I thought it was about time I put it all down so anyone who cares can keep up. SO here it is, in no particular order:

  • Job: I got one, sort of. It sounded really great, $40k/year, benefits after 90 days, forced retirement with a buy-in option after 5 years, overall a "good job." But what they didn't tell us until later is that for the 6-8 wk training program we are salespeople working solely off of a $10 or less per bottle commission and are required to sell 160 bottles of perfume and cologne within the training time. I hate selling. I especially hate selling things I don't use and don't see the necessity of. That aside, I was going to give it an honest try but it was really starting to bum me out. Then Dearest pointed out to me that the gas it costs to get to Tacoma from Renton on a daily basis would make it a training program that is way more expensive than we can afford. The finale of this will happen tomorrow when I give back the items I have on consignment and say to bosslady "thanks, but no thanks." P.S. To those of you who want to buy perfume at the discounted price, you still can. Tell me what you want, I'll contact bosslady for the price she's selling it for, and I'll make sure you get it.

  • We have officially secured our Renton place and now are just waiting for the bank to say "get out" before we pack up and leave. There's a certified letter in the post office for us (because nobody thinks "maybe the doorbell doesn't work and I should knock just in case) that I will pick up tomorrow after turning in my consignment and hopefully it will be the "get out" letter that sends us to a much, much better place and a new start.

  • We're meeting with the couple who is going to take Rose on Tuesday evening, hopefully their beagle and other dog like Rose because as much as Dearest loves the little pest, I would like to not have dog hair all over clothes I pull from the closet. And all over my couch, bed, dresser, floor, etc. Rose has become my responsibility and has been influential in proving to me that I am most definitely not ready to begin breeding yet.

  • I have been learning how to bake. I'm starting with sugar cookies. The best batch yet happened by accident, because I thought I undercooked them but didn't think I'd be able to take them out in time if I cooked them longer.
  • My husband has decided (after discovering barrels of flour and sugar in the bulk foods section at our grocery store) that we're going to go as homemade as possible. As in, homemade bread, homemade pasta sauce. I'm sure if I had a pasta machine he'd want that homemade too. It's an adventure, which makes me happy. It's a huge time commitment in an area where I'm still fairly insecure - the "wifey" category - which concerns me. But all in all, it's his decision and unless he decides that he's tired of eating bricks while I figure out the whole bread thing, we'll see it through.

  • I'm liking the Christmas traditions we're developing together. I'm getting into the baking and playing Christmas music thing, on Christmas day we'll be splitting our time between the McQuade side and the Kirwan side (both on his side of the family, by the way), and last night we enjoyed a pre-christmas party/gift exchange with the McQuade side. Christmas will sort of mark a full-circle because last year we did Christmas together, but this year is our first married Christmas and I think that's awesome. We may also be entertaining his best friend for Christmastime this year, so that's exciting too.  As time goes on I'll get him into other Christmasy things like decorating and hosting our own party and maybe even caroling. For the time being, he's indulging my desire to bake and listen to music and he's taken to helping me with the housework when I ask..mostly because I've taken to asking.

  • We don't yet know what this year, or even the rest of this month will bring. A lot of things are up in the air right now, but I'm sure it will all land at some point and then we'll figure things out. In the meantime, we're trying to get through this month and figure out what we're going to do with ourselves and our lives and the new start we're about to have.

  1. I have a few suggestions for you in the recipes with a bread base...and I can send you the sweet potato bread (and numerous other breads) recipes if you want them...the ones I've used forever. Some of them are batter breads, meaning no kneeding. you mix, put it in a greased loaf pan let it rise there and then bake. Nothing could be easier :) sweet potatoe bread doesn't have to be separated into crescent rolls..soo...it CAN be alot easier (and you won't have to make 72 for dinner either!) I'm really proud of you. The job thing is absolutely the right decision. Kudo's to the son in law for the good advice :) We will be praying that the move goes smoothly and that the baking goes well and that next year your traditions might include coming home for a visit during the season. We miss you. P.S. I LOVE that dragonfly perfume bottle and it's going on my OVER post. just so you know :)

  2. I would greatly appreciate the recipes, especially that one that you don't need to knead. Unfortunately, Jared can't stand sweet potato anything. So that one will have to wait until we're able to visit for a holiday or something.

  3. Nice blog, interesting posts, good quotes! I'll be glad to follow you!
And I hope a suggestion of mine will be welcome too? Do you use sites like zazzle.com, cafepress. com, fiverr? They could be a good way to promote your works/blog, etc and to help "remove" stupidity in the streets like headlines on t-shirts, fridge-magnets, cups, etc: My Boyfriend kisses Better Than Yours, FBI - female body inspector, etc. Not everything we see and think of should be about sex, right? It would be much better if there were more nice pictures of mythical creatures, good thoughts, poems from fantasy genre, etc? I'm allanbard there, I use some of my illustrations, thoughts, poems from my books (like: One can fight money only with money, Even in the hottest fire there's a bit of water, All the problems in the world lead to one - narrow-minded people, or
Love and happiness will be around,
as all the chains will disappear,
and Mountaineers will climb their mount
and there won't be any tear! etc).
I guess anyone could appreciate such lines much more than the usual stuff we see every day? Best wishes! Let the wonderful noise of the sea always sounds in your ears! (a greeting of the water dragons'hunters - my Tale Of The Rock Pieces).
